Doc – A Medical Drama With Morals
Back when it used to be an actual station, PAX was one of the few Christian-themed channels you could find on television and many of the shows that were broadcast came with a decidedly evangelical tone. While this was upsetting to some, for others it was a chance for them to enjoy some family-safe television with everyone in the home and Doc was no exception.
I personally don’t remember too much about the show since it’s been over ten years since it was on. I remember catching one episode sandwiched between a commercial for home security Tucson, but one of the things I remember most about the show, and I remember this being the reason I liked it, it was not overpowering. A lot of shows and programs that are decidedly Christian have a tendency to be less entertainment and more about lectures, but that was not what Doc was all about.
Sure, there were Christian overtones but at no point did it feel like the show was trying to overstep its boundaries or proselytize. It managed to tell a story that people from all walks of life could appreciate and, to me, that was why it was such a huge success.
